Paintings, collage, fabric + wallpaper inspired by nature’s repeating patterns.
PALETTE > PAINTING.
Bethany Mabee’s paintings begin with instinctive layers of fluid color where movement and improvisation shape the direction of each work. Drawn from the shifting palettes and geometry found in nature, her paintings explore the balance between flow and structure, allowing spontaneity and intention to exist side by side. What begins as a study in color and movement gradually evolves into layered compositions that reflect the rhythm of the natural world.
PAINTING TO PATTERN.
Small sections of Bethany’s original paintings are digitally isolated and transformed into repeating motifs for fabric and wallpaper. What appears geometric from afar reveals painterly layers and subtle tonal shifts beneath. Bethany’s textile collections extend the original artwork into functional design while continuing an exploration of repetition, rhythm, and the cycles found throughout nature.
Collage serves as a return to the tactile origins of the studio process. Painted canvas scraps, works on paper and fabric remnants are rearranged into new compositions through instinctive layering and assembly. These works embrace imperfection, movement, and rediscovery, allowing fragments of earlier processes to take on new life. Deconstructed and rebuilt, each collage becomes a tactile exploration of repetition, memory, and the evolving relationship between structure and spontaneity.
